Research Associate I/II

A Research Associate I position is available at Dr. Yun Rose Li’s laboratory at Beckman Research Institute, City of Hope. Dr. Li is a physician scientist in radiation oncology whose research integrates genetic epidemiology, innovative sequencing and bioinformatics technologies, molecular biology tools, and biomarker studies from patients enrolled in clinical trials to better understand the role of oxidative stress in cancer risk and treatment response. The prospective candidates should be highly self-motivated, creative, and capable of working independently and in a team.

Under the direct supervision of the Principle Investigator, Dr. Yun Rose Li, or designate, the Research Associate I performs a variety of routine and increasingly complex research experiments in cell and molecular biology. The ideal candidate must exhibit a can-do attitude, express strong desire to learn and be self-motivated. Individuals with significant laboratory/research experience may be considered for a Research Associate II position. Such an individual would be expected to direct the work of a laboratory or undertake research projects in collaboration with the academic supervisor, contribute original ideas to the laboratory research; standardize new techniques and train staff on these techniques; perform specialized procedures and prepare written reports of laboratory experimental methods.

Position Qualifications:

Minimum Education:Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, chemistry, computer/physical sciences or related field
Minimum Experience:1-2 years of research/laboratory experience though highly motivated individuals with less experience will be considered
Required Courses/Training:Prior work experience in a cell/molecular biology lab or exposure through coursework to coding in languages such as R, Python and Matlab strongly preferred
Preferred Education:Master’s Degree preferred to be considered for RA II position
Preferred Courses/Training:Prior course work and lab course work in Cell or Molecular Biology, Biochemistry
Preferred Experience:Proficiency in coding in languages such as R, Python and Matlab strongly preferred
Skills/Abilities:Excellent computer skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work in a team
Software:Personal computer, Microsoft Word/Excel Basic Laboratory equipment; such as Centrifuge Microscope R, Python, Matlab
Machines/Equipment:Must wear PPE as required
Working / Environmental Conditions:Smoke free environment May be exposed to toxic chemicals Subject to regularly changing priorities or work assignments
